Career preparation is becoming more and more important to young people. For many, this is the primary reason to go to college, They know that the job market is competitive. At college, they can learn new skill for careers with a lot of opportunities. This means careers, such as information technology, that are expected to need a large workforce in the coming years.
Also, students go to colleges and universities to have new experiences. This often means having the opportunity to meet people different from those in their hometowns. For most students, going to college is the first time they've been away from home by themselves. In additions, this is the first time they've had to make decisions on their own. Making these decisions increases their knowledge of themselves.
Besides looking for self-knowledge, people also attend a university or college to expand their knowledge in subjects they find interesting. For many, this will be their last chance for a long time to learn about something that doesn't relate to their career. I would recommend that people not be so focused on a career. Why People Attend College or University?
There are many advantages to a college or university education. Students have ample opportunity to explore a variety of interests, increase both their general and specific knowledge, prepare for a chosen career and develop independence. All of these are valuable goals to achieve, but it is my belief that most students today pursue higher education insgroupsto prepare for their future careers.
In the past, only the rich and privileged had the opportunity to attend a university and their goals were very different. Coming from wealthy families, few of them would have to compete for a job after graduation, and most wished only to be considered well-educated. Today’s students are more practical. Furthermore, higher education is a big investment and so most students want to get all they can out of it. The world has changed a great deal since universities were established. They are still wonderful places for acquiring broad knowledge and for personal development. 1. 误以为见了一面的词随便记在哪里就行了
原始积累期间我们积累词汇的方法比较粗陋，有的是小卡片，有的是便签纸，有的是笔记本。几十张卡片放在那里，如果排列得整齐倒也无妨，但如果乱七八糟一堆，连半点继续整理词汇的欲望都没有了，更别提温习单词了。积累下来的词汇要方便分类、整理，能够随时查看。也要让你能够有背单词看单词的兴趣。
2. 误以为词汇的积累就是单个词汇的叠加
不要把每个单词当成孤立的个体对待，应当建立词汇网络，也就是说一个词汇的近义词反义词、搭配、固定用法等，要尽量形成一个词汇网络。否则你积累到一个单词，它就是一个单词，除此之外，它什么都不是。?
积累词汇需要语境意识也需要联结性网络。形成词汇网我们能够更好的记忆词汇，并扩充词汇量。而形成语境意识则是避免我们看到单词本里词汇能认识但是到阅读里面就忘记的方法。
3. 误以为量变可以引起质变
语言的学习要基于兴趣，否则积累再多词汇也都是被动学习。通过被动学习积累下来的词汇，到后来个个都变成了你的仇人，你不会有太多感情的。所以，不带有兴趣、不带有感情的学习方式，显然是有问题的。别看已经到了大学了，很多人还是忘不了应试的那一套。积累词汇需要兴趣。
4.误以为背下来的词汇就是自己的
词汇光背诵是没有用处的，你会慢慢的遗忘，写作的时候也很难记忆起来。你背下来的词汇是要被内化的，就像内化中文一样。学到一个词，就要用起来，否则这个词对你来说就是一个“死”词。
托福词汇积累方法
1. 词根词缀联想记忆法
词根、前缀、后缀是英语单词的重要组成部分，可以表示单词的词性和词义，所以对词根词缀有一定的掌握，可以帮助我们更有效地记忆单词。
举个栗子：
inspire，expire，respire这三个词就长得很像吧，怎么有效地区分它们呢?
首先我们发现三个词有一个共同的词根，就是-spire，它的意思是空气。
那么inspire中in-可以表示进来，所以我们可以联想到inspire是指吸入了一缕新鲜的空气，进而会觉得浑身是劲儿，有了灵感之意，于是很容易联系到“启发”“鼓舞”的意思。
相反，expire中的ex-表示出去，所以我们可以联想到expire是指“呼气”;进一步联想到最后一口气呼出去，所以expire有“死亡”之意;死亡表示生命周期到极限，所以expire还有“到期”之意。
同样，respire中的re-表示反复之意，所以可以联想respire为反复进出空气，很容易联想到它的意思“呼吸”吧。
2. 分类法
背单词时不要机械式的只完成list中的单词任务，可以同时记忆与所背单词相关单词，可以起到举一反三的效果。
举个栗子：
背到herbivore “草食动物”时，自然而然去查一下“肉食动物”carnivore 以及“杂食动物”omnivore，比较着记忆，是一个扩充词汇量的好方法。
3. 近反义词记忆法
和分类法一样，同时记忆与所背单词意思相近或相反的单词，同样可以起到举一反三的作用。
4. 单词造句法
遇到一些容易混淆的单词时，死记硬背是最out的方法，不妨在理解了单词的区别之后通过造句来巩固记忆。比如nutritious和nutritional这两个均表“营养的”的词就很容易让人混淆的，nutritious指“含有营养的”，nutritional指“与营养相关的”。 我们可以通过造句练习来进行记忆，如Nutritionally speaking，avocado is nutritious.
托福词汇积累方式
美剧
由于受到生活环境的限制，我们在日常生活中，不可能随时随地的接触外国人，这时候美剧就成了我们了解外国人的一个重要途径。虽然优秀美剧比较缺乏，但我们还是能通过重温许多经典美剧提高我们的英语。《绯闻女孩》是一部非常潮(catchy)的剧集，剧中主人公发音清晰标准，有很多年轻人常用的俚语供我们学习。《老友记》仍然是经典中的经典，各种有关这部剧集的学习资料层出不穷，甚至连所有台词在网上都能下载到，想要钻研一部美剧的话，这部最佳。
还有一些美剧中对话的语速会比较快，如果我们在平时观看的过程中，准确理解这部美剧中所要传达的信息，那么我们再转换到托福听力中，将会非常得心应手。
电脑和手机
